Description
Did you know that a standard car alarm sensor, such as a shock sensor, will NOT protect the wheels of your car? The only effective way to detect if your car is being jacked up is with a tilt sensor.
The AVS digital tilt sensor is completely electronic with an accelerometer and microcontroller for effective and sensitive operation plus it contains extensive anti-falsing circuitry. It is much more accurate than basic mercury based switches.
The sensor sets itself to the angle you are parked on when you arm the alarm. If the car is tilted in ANY direction from 1.5 degrees it triggers the alarm. Cheaper tilt sensors will not be able to pick up this small an adjustment and with after market suspension it is possible to jack a car only slightly and be able to remove the wheels.
It can be added as an optional upgrade to any 12 volt AVS car alarm and it comes as standard with the AVS S5 Five Star car alarm.
Why a tilt sensor is important
Tilt sensors are becoming important in the fight against crime because of two growing trends:
- Today thieves will often tow a car away to a safe, private space before it is worked on. And to do that they simply get the vehicle towed. A good tilt sensor (like our one) will trigger the alarm if the car is being towed.
- And today it’s not just mags that are valuable to a thief – factory rims, four wheel drive tyres and expensive tyres are all targets. Even with a car alarm installed, if it doesn’t have a tilt sensor, a thief can often jack the car and remove the wheels without triggering the alarm.
